Shopify SEO automation with one line of code
Updated ยท By the SEOAmazing team
Yes, SEOAmazing works on Shopify. You paste one script tag into your theme's theme.liquid file, before the closing head tag. There is no Shopify app to install and no store migration. It crawls your store, then writes fixes for product, collection and page titles, meta descriptions, schema, H1s and image alt text that you approve.
Why on-page SEO gets out of hand on a Shopify store
A Shopify store grows by products. Every product, variant and collection is another page with its own title, description and images. Shopify gives you an SEO field for each one. Filling them all in by hand is where stores fall behind.
The problems below are common across Shopify stores. They come from how stores are built and imported, not from anything you did wrong.
- Product imports and suppliers. Bulk imports often bring in manufacturer titles and descriptions. The same text may appear on other stores selling the same item.
- Default listings. If you leave a product's search engine listing alone, Shopify builds it from the product title and description. That is rarely the title a shopper would search for.
- Theme templates control headings. Your theme decides which element is the H1 on product, collection and blog templates. Some themes use the store logo or a section heading, so key pages can end up with no clear H1 or more than one.
- Collection paths. Products can be reached at more than one URL, such as under a collection path and at their own product path. Themes usually handle this with a canonical tag, but internal links still point at many versions.
- Image alt text. Product photos are often uploaded in bulk with no alt text, which hurts both image search and accessibility.
How to add SEOAmazing to your Shopify theme
You need an account that can edit theme code in your Shopify admin. The steps below use the desktop admin. Shopify's mobile app has an Edit code option too, but a desktop browser is easier for this.
- Copy your snippet from the SEOAmazing dashboard.
- In Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes. Shopify recommends you duplicate your theme first, so you have a backup you can return to.
- On your current theme, click the ... (horizontal menu) button and select Edit code.
- In the Layout folder, open theme.liquid. This is the main layout file that wraps your storefront pages.
- Find the closing </head> tag. Paste your snippet on its own line just before it. Leave the {{ content_for_header }} line alone. Shopify requires it inside the head, and the file won't save without it.
- Click Save. Open your storefront, view the page source, and check the snippet appears in the head.
- If a template in your theme uses a different layout file, or uses no layout, add the snippet there too.
<script defer src="โฆ/pixel.js" data-site-id="YOUR_SITE_KEY"></script>Shopify gotchas to know before you start
A few Shopify details affect where the pixel can run and how long your install lasts.
- Checkout is out of scope. Theme layouts apply to storefront pages, not checkout. The old checkout.liquid layout was only ever available on Shopify Plus and is deprecated. Checkout pages are not something you need to rank, so this rarely matters for SEO.
- New themes don't carry the snippet. The code lives in one theme. If you publish a different theme, or a fresh copy of a theme, add the snippet to it before you switch.
- Preview a duplicate first if you are cautious. You can add the snippet to a duplicated, unpublished theme and preview it before you publish.
What SEOAmazing changes on product, collection and content pages
When you add your store, SEOAmazing crawls it from your sitemap. It snapshots titles, meta descriptions, headings, images missing alt text, structured data, internal links and Core Web Vitals. The AI writes prioritized fixes. Each one shows the current value, a proposed value you can edit, a severity and a one-line reason.
Approved fixes are applied in the browser by the pixel. That covers title tags, meta descriptions, a single clear H1, JSON-LD schema, image alt text and internal-link anchor text.
What it does not do: it does not edit your Shopify admin. Your product data, SEO fields and theme sections stay exactly as they are. Changes are live only while the snippet is in your theme. Take it out and your store shows what Shopify serves. Writing changes back into the CMS is on our roadmap, not live today.
How Google and AI shopping answers see your store
Google renders JavaScript, so Googlebot can see the changes the pixel applies. After you approve a fix, the ruleset is cached at the edge for about five minutes.
Many AI crawlers, such as GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot, don't run JavaScript. Our prerender service can serve them fully rendered HTML with your approved changes in place. That needs bot traffic routed to the prerender with a small edge rule in front of your domain. It is set up with our help, not automatic, so contact us to check what fits your store's setup.
The pixel is under 8 KB gzipped, loads with defer and never blocks paint. If our CDN is unreachable, your store renders as normal.
Next steps for your store
Start where the money is.
- Review fixes for your best-selling product and collection pages first. Edit proposed titles so they match how shoppers search.
- Add product and category keywords to rank tracking. You will see your Google position, change, best and trend, plus whether you own the featured snippet.
- Connect Google Search Console (optional, read-only). Look at queries ranking 4 to 20. Those pages are close to page one and often need only a better title or description.
Frequently asked questions
Is SEOAmazing a Shopify app?
No. There is no app in the Shopify App Store. You add one script tag to your theme's theme.liquid file. That is the whole install.
Will it conflict with my Shopify SEO app?
Your SEO app keeps doing what it does. The pixel applies your approved changes in the browser, on top of the page your theme and apps output. We have not published compatibility testing with specific apps. Avoid having two tools manage the same field, such as product schema. Review each fix and reject anything another tool already handles.
Does it change my product descriptions or SEO fields in Shopify admin?
No. It never writes to your Shopify admin. Approved changes are applied on the page while the snippet is installed. Your admin data stays the same.
Do I need Shopify Plus?
No. Editing theme code is available outside Plus. Plus only matters for checkout customization, and checkout pages are not part of SEO work.
What happens when I update or change my theme?
The snippet lives inside a single theme. If you publish a new theme or a fresh theme version, add the snippet to it before or right after you publish. Your approved fixes stay in your SEOAmazing account.
Will it slow down my store?
The pixel is under 8 KB gzipped and loads with defer, so it never blocks paint. It can't throw errors into your page, and if our CDN is down your store loads as normal.
